I must admit I am kind of getting used to it now and found a quiet hotel in Medan where I have been staying for a while recently.

It's called "adzan" the way moslem to remind others to pray. It's broadcast before pray five times a day. That's true that the first adzan is broadcast very early at 4-4.30 a.m. coz the first pray is when sun rise in the morning. I do understand that it disturb ur sleep :)

However, it's not true that doing adzan loudly is because moslems are hoping that God will hear their prayers. It's just to remind the time of pray; just like bell in the church
